It lies somewhere between red and blue. It can be rather dark and regal, or a more cheerful hue with a dash of energetic playfulness. You’ll have guessed by now, we’re talking about purple. Or violet, mauve, indigo, lavender, lilac, damson, plum... indeed, a colour with many names. Take a look around you, especially in gardens and the countryside. Purple puts in an appearance almost everywhere. The gorgeous deep colour of the fruit on the plum tree. Irises in bloom, swaying elegantly in the summer breeze. And if you chance upon a field filled with swathes of flowering lavender, the colour will melt your heart. Because of our own fondness of the colour and its multiple hues, it features on many of our dresses.

There’s a poem by Jenny Joseph called “Warning” which begins “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple”. Don’t wait until you’re old, is what we say. Gudrunistas look amazing in a purple dress – whatever their age. Purple has a richness and depth that can take you by surprise. It achieves the perfect balance between romance and drama, with a touch of mystery and heaps of individuality and creativity. We’ve attempted to capture all of this in our purple dresses. Here’s an example: Featuring short sleeves and a pretty frilled finish on the hem, our plain purple, organic cotton jersey dress is perfect for summer. Trips to museums, strolls along beaches or afternoon tea in the garden... it’s a versatile style for any occasion. Team it with leggings and a cardigan when the sun has set and the temperature has dropped. How about a black organic wool cardigan with a floral design? Or an ochre coloured cardigan with embroidered details that give it a romantic look? Purple is a colour that can be easily paired and matched with many others. Try teaming it with soft off-white, woodland-green or mustard-yellow.

Here’s another one of our purple dresses: If you like dots as much as we do, you might want to add a purple dress with fine dots to your wardrobe. The comfortable, light and soft feel of the linen will instantly make this dress one of your favourites. In fact you’ll probably want to wear it every day! And why not? Combine it with different pieces and accessories and it will feel like new every day. How about pairing it with a longline knitted waistcoat on Monday? On Tuesday, you could add a pair of easy-wear trousers and on Wednesday a pair of knitted socks and stylish boots. Wear it to your Thursday meeting with a knit-fabric blazer. When Friday comes and it’s time to wind down, pair that beautiful purple dress of yours with a soft long-sleeve sweater. If entertaining or invited out at the weekend, elevate your look with a scarf around your neck or a decorative belt for your waist. You see, a purple dress can take you anywhere, any time – simply find your favourite combinations and you’ll have a dress for life.
